In response to her letter to the editor, I asked my friend in an email: "Have you found a one page description of what solutions might be?"

She responded:

Individuals can help by:
  • Using less electricity, natural gas, propane or heating oil.  All our utilities have suggestions of how we can help.
  • Switch to a renewable energy provider
  • Install solar panels, upgrade your gas furnace to a heat pump, put in extra insulation and fix drafts.
  • Carpool, consider a hybrid or all electric car, public transportation, walk, bike.
  • Eat more vegetables, cut out or cut down on eating red meat
  • Reduce, Repair, Reuse and Recycle
  • Compost
  • Lobby local politicians and businesses to support efforts to cut emissions
  • Support research and organizations that can mobilize more people to find solutions
  • Do what you can to become more aware of the problems that this warming of our climate is causing.

The Kids are ALL RIGHT

A group of young people in Montana have scored a major victory. Here's the story. CNN reports:

"Attorneys for the plaintiffs called the court’s decision a “sweeping win” in a statement.

“Today, for the first time in US history, a court ruled on the merits of a case that the government violated the constitutional rights of children through laws and actions that promote fossil fuels, ignore climate change, and disproportionately imperil young people,” said Julia Olson, chief legal counsel and executive director of Our Children’s Trust. “This is a huge win for Montana, for youth, for democracy, and for our climate. More rulings like this will certainly come.”
